Jancis Robinson: Finca la Tejera, “one of the great revelations”

Ferran Centelles blind tastes a selection of Ribera del Duero, puts Fuentecén among its reference villages and gives Unanimous Finca la Tejera 2021 18/20.

In February 2025, JancisRobinson.com published “Ribera del Duero – the power of terroir”, the first of three articles by Ferran Centelles on the region. The wines were tasted blind at the Consejo Regulador headquarters: 64 wines pre-selected by the appellation’s technical committee.

Centelles celebrates that the DO now allows village names on labels and tours Ribera’s best villages. Discussing the villages around Aranda, he notes that Fuentecén, Fuentenebro and Peñaranda de Duero were not yet on his 2016 list, and that in 2024 “they are references to be taken into account”. For Fuentecén he picks one wine: Unanimous Finca la Tejera 2021, “one of the great revelations of the tasting”.

Bottle of Unanimous Finca la Tejera

«Tasted blind. Multilayered wine with good concentration. Fabulous balance. Lots of fruit, abundant tannin and very silky, of great quality. It is a complete wine, powerful, very sapid, but with fresh black fruit of great vivacity. I love this proposal, because it offers a lot of pleasure. Long and deep, with hints of perfectly ripe wild black fruit, rosemary and a light, elegant touch of cedar.»

Finca la Tejera is a single old-vine plot in Fuentecén, on clay in a warm spot sheltered from frost, where Tinto Fino grows alongside Garnacha and Albillo Mayor. A wine of 2,050 bottles appearing next to Ribera’s great names is the best proof of what we stand for: the value of each village and each vineyard.
