Unanimous Finca la Tejera
A single vineyard over 100 years old: 0.65 hectares of heavy clay in a small valley running down to the Riaza river.
They say that making wine is a conversation among many voices: the land, the climate, the hands and time. Sometimes they disagree, but there comes a moment when everything finds its balance and time, patient at last, delivers its verdict. From that silent agreement, Unanimous was born. The three “gentlemen” on the label protect a piece of living history: vineyards planted between 1890 and 1948 by people who are no longer with us, a book holding everything earlier generations learned about the vine.
- Grapes
- 80% Tinto Fino, with Garnacha, Albillo, Malvasía and others
- Vineyard
- Finca la Tejera: 0.65 ha planted before 1920, bush-trained, at 820 m
- Ageing
- 14 months in extra-fine-grain French oak barrels
La Tejera is the family's mother vineyard: the massal selection we have used to plant our vineyards comes from its vines. It is a 0.65-hectare plot planted before 1920, where Tinto Fino grows alongside Garnacha, Albillo, Malvasía and varieties we have yet to identify.
Its name says it all about the soil: in Spanish, a tejera is the place in every village where adobe bricks and roof tiles were made, always on heavy clay.

Technical sheet
Terroir
- Location
- Made only from the grapes of a single 0.65-hectare (1.6-acre) plot planted before 1920, over 100 years old, in a small valley running down to the Riaza, a tributary of the Duero.
- Grapes
- 80% Tinto Fino; like every vineyard planted before 1980, it also has Garnacha, Albillo, Malvasía and other varieties not yet identified.
- Altitude
- 820 metres above sea level and 23 above the river, which keeps it clear of frost on the cold Ribera del Duero nights.
- Age and training
- Over 100 years old, bush-trained, with a planting pattern of 2.3 × 1.5 m.
- Soil
- A tejera was the place in every village where adobe bricks and roof tiles were made, always on heavy clay. That defines its soil: deep, heavy clay, with a layer of sand on top washed down by the heavy rains.
- Growing season
- A dry winter with occasional snowfall. Budburst on 18 April, with little spring rain due to the unusually warm, dry conditions of the vintage. Despite the low water reserves, a few well-timed summer showers relieved the vines, which reached a balanced ripeness with remarkable concentration and intensity in the grapes. Heat summation of 1,330–1,355 °C, 290–315 L/m² of rainfall and a yield of about 3,700 kg/ha.
Winemaking
- Harvest
- On 12 October, pushing ripeness to the limit with low daytime temperatures, in the last dry days before the rains and frosts. By hand, in 15 kg crates checked one by one; the grapes are chilled before entering the winery.
- In the winery
- Fermented at very low temperature with dry ice in stainless steel tanks, with gentle punch-downs to extract the most complex, noble compounds from the skins. Malolactic fermentation in 500-litre barrels of extra-fine French oak.
- Ageing
- 14 months in new and used extra-fine-grain French oak barrels with different toast levels. It then rests for at least 12 months in bottle, in optimal temperature and humidity, before release.
Tasting notes
- Appearance
- Deep cherry red, clean and bright.
- Nose
- Very high intensity, with elegance and finesse at the forefront. Abundant red fruit, creamy and delicate yet very fragrant, with mineral and saline notes.
- Palate
- Balanced, with good acidity, persistent and fruity. A faithful expression of Tempranillo grown in a cool area, on a soil that is very unusual in Ribera del Duero.
