Unanimous Finca la Maricana
A vineyard planted in 1920 in Haza, beside a holm-oak wood full of thyme and beehives: Tempranillo and Garnacha on chalky clay.
They say that making wine is a conversation among many voices: the land, the climate, the hands and time. Sometimes they disagree, but there comes a moment when everything finds its balance and time, patient at last, delivers its verdict. From that silent agreement, Unanimous was born. The three “gentlemen” on the label protect a piece of living history: vineyards planted between 1890 and 1948 by people who are no longer with us, a book holding everything earlier generations learned about the vine.

La Maricana is a 1.04-hectare plot planted in 1920 in Haza, on the border with Fuentecén, beside a holm-oak wood full of thyme and rosemary. It has more Garnacha than La Tejera and a much chalkier soil, which gives the wine a more vertical profile, with chalky and saline notes.
The bottle is sealed with beeswax instead of sealing wax: it comes from the beehives next to the vineyard.

Technical sheet
Terroir
- Location
- Made only from the grapes of the Maricana plot, 1.04 ha (2.6 acres) in Haza (Burgos), on the border with Fuentecén. It lies beside a holm-oak wood full of thyme and rosemary, with several beehives next to it.
- Grapes
- 60% Tempranillo, 35% Garnacha and 5% Albillo Mayor.
- Altitude
- 870 metres above sea level and 48 above the river, which keeps it clear of frost on the cold Ribera del Duero nights.
- Age and training
- Planted in 1920, over 100 years old, bush-trained on a 2.3 × 1.5 m pattern, typical of the early twentieth century.
- Soil
- Deep clay —at least in the 3 metres we have managed to dig— rich in carbonates and lime, with a sandy top layer washed down from the nearby hills by the winter rains. It is a much chalkier soil than La Tejera's, which gives the wines a more vertical profile.
- Growing season
- A dry winter with occasional snowfall. Budburst on 18 April, with little spring rain due to the unusually warm, dry conditions of the vintage. Despite the low water reserves, a few well-timed summer showers relieved the vines, which reached a balanced ripeness with remarkable concentration and intensity in the grapes. Heat summation of 1,330–1,355 °C, 290–315 L/m² of rainfall and a yield of about 3,700 kg/ha.
Winemaking
- Harvest
- On 28 September, on sunny days that helped preserve the freshness of the grapes. All by hand, in 15 kg crates, and chilled before entering the winery.
- In the winery
- Fermented at very low temperature with dry ice in stainless steel tanks, with gentle punch-downs to extract the most complex, noble compounds from the skins. Malolactic fermentation in 500-litre barrels of extra-fine French oak.
- Ageing
- 12 months in new and used extra-fine-grain French oak barrels with different toast levels. It then rests for at least 12 months in bottle, in optimal temperature and humidity, before release.
Tasting notes
