Unanimous Pago de San Vicente

Tempranillo with 25% Bobal from the Pago de San Vicente, beside the Pinadillo woods. Black fruit, a generous mid-palate and a long finish.

They say that making wine is a conversation among many voices: the land, the climate, the hands and time. Sometimes they disagree, but there comes a moment when everything finds its balance and time, patient at last, delivers its verdict. From that silent agreement, Unanimous was born. The three “gentlemen” on the label protect a piece of living history: vineyards planted between 1890 and 1948 by people who are no longer with us, a book holding everything earlier generations learned about the vine.

Grapes
65% Tempranillo, 25% Bobal, 5% Garnacha, 5% Albillo Mayor
Vineyard
Pago de San Vicente (Fuentecén), planted between 1991 and 2004, at 845–860 m
Ageing
12 months in extra-fine-grain French oak barrels

The Pago de San Vicente is an area of Fuentecén very close to La Maricana, sheltered by the Pinadillo woods. The family's grandfather planted it in several stages between 1991 and 2004, with Tempranillo and 25% Bobal, the variety known in Ribera as “Valenciano”.

Its soils change a great deal from one corner to the next, so the harvest takes 15 days, each area picked at its peak. You can taste the Bobal in the glass: it brings an extraordinary mid-palate and a long finish.

Technical sheet

Terroir

Location
Made from grapes grown in the Pago de San Vicente, an area of Fuentecén very close to the Maricana plot, sheltered by the Pinadillo woods, whose holm oaks, thyme, rosemary and other aromatic plants help pollination and hold back the north winds.
Grapes
65% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), 25% Bobal —called “Valenciano” in Ribera—, 5% Garnacha and 5% Albillo Mayor.
Altitude
Between 845 and 860 metres above sea level and 48 above the river, which keeps it clear of frost on the cold Ribera del Duero nights.
Age and training
Between 19 and 32 years old. The family's grandfather planted it in several stages between 1991 and 2004.
Soil
Very varied: red clay, white clay rich in limestone, and areas with a top layer of sand and gravel over deep clay.
Growing season
A dry winter with some snowfall. Budburst on 24 April, the month the rains arrived. May was cold and wet, leaving reserves in the soil for the usual hot, dry summer. A long, balanced cycle led to a harvest in optimal condition, with pH, acidity and phenolic ripeness spot on. Heat summation of 1,310 °C and 382 L/m² of rainfall from October to October.

Winemaking

Harvest
It began on 12 October, before the rains and frosts, and lasted 15 days: each area was picked into 15 kg crates at its peak, depending on its soil. The sandy areas always ripen first. The grapes are chilled before entering the winery.
In the winery
Fermented at very low temperature in stainless steel tanks, with gentle punch-downs to extract the most complex, noble compounds from the skins. Malolactic fermentation in 225-litre barrels of extra-fine French oak.
Ageing
12 months in new and used extra-fine-grain French oak barrels with different toast levels. It then rests for at least 12 months in bottle, in optimal temperature and humidity, before release.

Tasting notes

Appearance
Deep cherry red, clean and bright.
Nose
Very high intensity, with elegance and finesse at the forefront. Persistent black fruit and compote, with mineral notes.
Palate
Balanced, with good acidity, persistent and fruity. The Bobal shows through, bringing an extraordinary mid-palate and a long finish.
